In celebration of National Treatment Court Month, the Washoe County Board of Commissioners issued a joint proclamation recognizing the Second Judicial District Court, Reno Justice Court, Sparks Justice Court, and Reno Municipal Court for their collective efforts in transforming lives through treatment services and essential support.

The proclamation highlights the powerful role that treatment courts play in addressing the root causes of justice system involvement—through comprehensive, evidence-based care and accountability.

“Our courts are proud to be part of a model that promotes recovery, reunites families, and restores lives,” said the Honorable Judge Egan Walker for the Second Judicial District Court.

Each year, Washoe County’s treatment courts refer more than 1,500 individuals to life-changing recovery services. These courts build strong community partnerships that align public health and public safety goals, saving taxpayer dollars while improving outcomes for participants.

Currently, Washoe County is home to more than 17 treatment courts. These programs prioritize rehabilitation over incarceration and provide individuals with the tools needed to succeed long-term.

According to All Rise (formerly NADCP), treatment courts save an average of more than $6,000 per participant and $27 for every $1 invested, thanks to reductions in incarceration, victimization, and healthcare costs. In addition to their economic impact, these courts help reduce recidivism, promote family reunification, and lessen the need for foster care placements.

The proclamation underscores that “when one person rises, we all rise,” and reaffirms Washoe County’s commitment to supporting and expanding these vital programs.
