The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection has begun accepting applications for the soon to be open judicial position on the Nevada Court of Appeals. The opening is the result of Chief Judge Abbi Silver’s election (Nov. 6) to the Nevada Supreme Court. She will officially take office on January 7, 2019.
Applicants must submit a hard copy of their completed application by 5 p.m. on December 7, 2018, to the Administrative Office of the Courts in Carson City or Las Vegas. Application materials can be found at http://nvcourts.link/NVJudicialSelection. Submissions filed late or are incomplete will not be considered.
The public will be able to view the applications, with the exception of confidential materials such as medical records and personal identification information, on the Commission’s website. The Commission will keep confidential the requested letters of reference about the candidates to ensure the authors can be candid.
Interviews to fill the open position are tentatively scheduled for the week of January 14, 2019, at the Supreme Court in Las Vegas and will be open to the public.
Following the application deadline, the Commission will conduct background investigations and interview each of the applicants. The Commission will then deliberate and nominate three finalist names to Governor-elect Steve Sisolak for appointment to the Court of Appeals.
