The Nevada Self-Help Center has launched a new Appeals section, giving the public easier access to information and tools for understanding district court civil cases and family cases appeals.
An appeal is a request for a higher court to review a final judgement from a lower court. Appealing a court decision can feel overwhelming, especially for people representing themselves. The new section is designed to break down the process into clear steps, including what can be appealed, when deadlines apply, and what documents are required.
Visitors will find guidance on topics such as:
- Determining whether an order is appealable
- Filing a Notice of Appeal with the district court
- Ordering transcripts
- Submitting a Docketing Statement
- Requesting a stay of the lower court’s decision
- Preparing and filing an Informal Brief
The Appeals section also includes fillable Microsoft Word forms provided by the Nevada Supreme Court and an online tool that ask users simple step-by-step questions to help determine whether filling an appeal is right for their case.
The Appeals section is now live and can be accessed from the Nevada Self-Help Center homepage.
