The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection received two applications to fill the vacancy in Department IX of the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County. The judicial position was made vacant by the appointment of Judge Silva to U.S District of Nevada. The Commission accepted the applications of:

  • Maria A. Gall - Ligation Partner at Ballard Spahr LLP (Clark County, NV)
  • Lindsey Moors - Chief Deputy District Attorney (Clark County, NV)

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection will convene on June 9, 2022 and make a recommendation to Governor Sisolak.

The Governor officially declared the vacancy in Department IX of the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County on April 13, 2022. The timeline for this selection process is somewhat compressed as the person who is selected to fill a vacant judicial position must run in the next general election after his or her selection to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the existing term, which in this case ends on January 4, 2027. In order to appear on the general election ballot, the successful applicant will need to file for election during the statutorily provided late filing period beginning June 20, 2022 and ending July 22, 2022.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection is composed of seven permanent members - the Supreme Court Chief Justice, three non-attorneys appointed by the Governor, and three attorneys appointed by the State Bar of Nevada. Neither the Governor nor the State Bar may appoint more than two permanent members from the same political party and cannot appoint two members from the same county.
