Matadamus-Serrano (Ruben) vs. State

Docket No. 88527

Las Vegas – 2:00 p.m. – Panel B25

Ruben Matadamus-Serrano was found guilty of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon and burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon after he stabbed and killed his girlfriend. On appeal, he argues the district court improperly denied his Batson challenge; violated his Sixth Amendment right to confrontation by allowing a substitute coroner to testify and by redacting portions of a preliminary hearing testimony; improperly limited his expert’s testimony on the effects of his alcohol abuse; and abused its discretion by allowing the State to publish an uncertified transcript of a 911 call.  He also argues that cumulative error requires reversal.

Franceschi vs. LG Chem, LTD.

Docket No. 87802

Las Vegas – 2:45 P.M. – Panel B25

This is an appeal from a district court order granting respondents’ motions to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction.  Appellant was injured when a battery manufactured by respondents exploded in his pocket.  Appellant argues on appeal that the district court erred in dismissing his lawsuit because he showed that his injuries weresufficiently related to the respondents’ contacts with Nevada, and thus the district court erred when it determined it lacked personal jurisdiction over respondents.
