Appellant Karen Guo and respondent Xiao Geng were married in 2013, but their relationship later deteriorated. Accordingly, Geng filed a complaint for divorce in the Eighth Judicial District Court-Family Division.
In Docket No. 82599-COA, Guo filed a separate action for civil breach of contract against Geng, asserting that the parties had an agreement that Geng would financially support Guo for life. The district court dismissed the civil action without prejudice due to a lack of subject matter jurisdiction. On appeal, Guo argues that the district court erred in dismissing Guo’s complaint.
In Docket No. 83771-COA, the parties attempted to negotiate a divorce decree to resolve their pending divorce action. Guo filed a motion to enforce their proposed settlement agreement, which was not executed by the parties. The district court-family division denied enforcement of the prior proposed settlement, finding that the parties had not reached an agreement and entered a decree of divorce. On appeal, Guo argues that the court abused its discretion in denying enforcement of the parties’ prior proposed settlement agreement, which would have benefitted her.
