City of Henderson vs. Spangler
Docket Number: 76295-COA
William S. Boyd School of Law UNLV Las Vegas - 10:30 a.m. - Court of Appeals

Appeal from a district court order granting a petition for judicial review in a workers' compensation matter.

ISSUES:

We address whether: (1) the appeals officer erred in construing NRS 616A.030's definition of "accident" too narrowly; (2) substantial evidence supports the appeals officer's decision to affirm the insurer's denial of Spangler's claim under NRS 616C.175(1) because he did not establish an "injury by accident"; and (3) substantial evidence supports the appeals officer's decision to affirm the insurer's denial of Spangler's claim under NRS 617.440 because his hearing loss was not a "compensable occupational disease."

Hanson vs. State
Docket Number: 76871-COA
William S. Boyd School of Law UNLV Las Vegas - 11:00 a.m. - Court of Appeals

Brandon Hanson appeals from a judgment of conviction, pursuant to a jury verdict, of first degree murder with use of a deadly weapon, burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, robbery with use of a deadly weapon, and two counts of break, injure or tamper with motor vehicle.

ISSUES:

Hanson solely challenges the sufficiency of the evidence supporting his conviction for first degree murder, arguing the State failed to submit enough evidence during the trial to prove premeditation and deliberation which is the required mental state necessary to convict for first degree murder..
