A panel of veteran judges will engage with attendees on a range of topics including current challenges, innovative ideas, and proven best practices in Nevada’s courts. This session promises insightful discussions aimed at enhancing the efficiency and fairness of our judiciary system.

1. Associate current challenges faced by Nevada’s courts with innovative solutions and best practices discussed by the panel of veteran judges.

2. Appraise the discussion to identify which best practices should be incorporated into their judicial toolkit.

3.  Add innovative ideas discussed during the session to their current judicial practices, aiming to improve the overall effectiveness of court operations in Nevada.

AI is now part of our lives and will only grow in use and ubiquity. How do we even go about framing discussions about this pervasive and invasive technology? Paul will lead a discussion and provide ideas on how to begin to harness this sea change in how we use information.

1. Define the key concepts and terminology related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications in daily life.


2. Compute the potential impacts of AI on different sectors by analyzing current data and trends.


3. Apply the strategies discussed in the session to initiate and facilitate conversations about the ethical, practical, and societal implications of AI in various contexts.

NEVADA APPELLATE DECISIONS REVIEW

Chief Judge Higgins will review and provide commentary on criminal and civil opinions of the Nevada Supreme Court and Court of Appeals  for 2023-2024.

1. Describe the key criminal and civil opinions issued by the Nevada Supreme Court and Court of Appeals for 2023-2024.     

2. Relate the implications of these opinions to current legal practices and case law within Nevada's judicial system.   

3. Propose ways to incorporate the insights and precedents from these opinions into future legal strategies and court procedures.

Aimed at safeguarding victim and preventing further harm, this session will cover the procedures for issuing temporary (ex parte) and extended orders, ensuring participants understand the legal  processes and criteria involved.

1. Outline the procedures for issuing temporary (ex parte) and extended protective orders in Nevada, including the necessary legal processes and criteria.

2. Generalize the various types of protective orders available in Nevada, focusing on their purposes and the circumstances under which each type is typically issued.

3. Rate the effectiveness of different protective orders in safeguarding victims and preventing further harm, based on the data and case studies presented during the session.
