Dear Fellow Judges,
On behalf of the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction, I invite you to the 2023 Summer Seminar in Tonopah, Nevada from June 20th-23rd. The week offers extensive judicial education and time to visit with old friends and new colleagues.
As is customary, the Education Committee will meet prior to the start of the conference. This meeting will be chaired by our esteemed colleague, Judge Kevin Higgins. The meeting will commence on Tuesday, June 20th at 9:00 a.m. The Education Committee plans the education for each conference, so all are invited to attend and provide their input.
The NJLJ Executive Board will meet on Tuesday, June 20th at 10:00 a.m. following the Education Committee meeting.
The Seminar’s educational portion will officially start on Tuesday, June 20th at 1:00 p.m. Our agenda includes sessions on recent Nevada legislative actions, recognizing and understanding batterer behavior as well as the impact on victims, legal research, best practices for court fines/fees, CDL masking, navigating the Exclusionary Rule, a civil and criminal appellate decisions review, new information on artificial intelligence and technology courts are implementing, a presentation on Trauma-Informed Workplaces, and a nuts and bolts session to answer questions and share best practices.
The NJLJ Business Meeting is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, June 22nd. This meeting is for the general membership to discuss the business of the organization for the upcoming year.
Our host judge, Jennifer Klapper, has packed each night with amazing social events! A special event is planned for Tuesday at the Station II facility to kick off the week. On Wednesday, we will hold the highly anticipated softball game between north and south, along with other tailgating games and a trivia night. For Thursday, a Ghost Walk will be followed by a banquet at the Historic Tonopah Mining Park.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am very excited to see everyone next month!
Judge Victor Miller
NJLJ President
