Dear Fellow Judges,
On behalf of the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction, I invite you to the 2024 Winter Seminar. This week allows for in-depth legal learning experiences and the chance to socialize with old acquaintances as well as fresh faces in our community.
As is customary, the Education Committee will meet prior to the start of the Seminar. This meeting will be chaired by our esteemed colleague, Judge Kevin Higgins. The meeting will commence on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. The Education Committee plans the education for each conference, so all are invited to attend and provide their input. The NJLJ Executive Board will meet at 10:00 a.m. following the Education Committee meeting.
The Seminar’s educational portion will officially start at 1:00 p.m. following the morning meetings. There will be educational sessions on recent changes to Nevada’s civil procedures. Multiple classes will cover your court and personal security, planning for life after your court service, and lessons learned on addiction and recovery from a former judge. Ethics sessions will focus on civility in the courtroom and how to effectively manage cases with Self Represented Litigants. Judges will learn about the court interpreter program and the role of Drug Recognition Experts in the court process. One highly requested session will focus on the administrative aspects of TPOs and the removal of guns from individuals. All in all, this educational conference is packed with relevant topics to our courts.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Judge Victor Miller
NJLJ President
