September 2, 2026: Nevada Appellate Courts Respond to Data Security Incident Involving Third-Party Vendor
West Publishing Corporation, the vendor of the C-Track case management system used by Nevada’s appellate courts, has notified Nevada of a data security incident.
The incident involved a portion of the vendor’s information technology environment and was not caused by the Court’s networks, systems or data security practices. West Publishing simultaneously provided similar notification to numerous other states, U.S. territories and Canadian provinces that also utilize C-Track. The Nevada Administrative Office of the Courts is working with the vendor to better understand this event and determine what information may have been accessed.
"Transparency with the public we serve is a priority for the Nevada judiciary," said Chief Justice Douglas Herndon. "While this incident originated outside of our own court systems, we hold ourselves and our vendors to a high standard of accountability, and we are committed to a thorough investigation with clear and timely communication as it progresses."
Our preliminary internal investigation has found no evidence of compromise to Nevada's C-Track environment in connection with this incident and no disruptions to service have resulted. Users may continue using the case management system as usual. The incident affected a vendor-owned system that contained select database backup files.
The Administrative Office of the Courts will continue coordinating with the vendor, and should West Publishing determine that specific individuals' information was affected, notifications will be issued by the vendor and/or Nevada’s appellate courts as appropriate.
As referenced above, courts in numerous other states, U.S. territories and Canadian provinces have also been affected. The system that was accessed contained information from several software products; the nature and extent of data that may have been accessed varies by jurisdiction, and the implications of the event for Nevada should not be assumed to reflect that of other states, U.S. territories or Canadian provinces.

To reiterate, the Court has no evidence that Nevada’s individual C-Track environment was accessed or in any way compromised, or that this incident has resulted in fraudulent activity involving Nevada court users. However, as always, individuals are encouraged to remain attentive to unusual or suspicious communications or activities.
