Judge Linda Marquis started her legal career at age 16 doing clerical work and running errands for a Las Vegas law firm. Learning the legal profession from the ground up sparked the Bonanza High School graduate’s passion for the law — as well as helping her pay her way through college and the William S. Boyd School of Law. While at Boyd, she taught courses on family law to the public as part of the law school’s community service program. Judge Marquis might have been the teacher, but she quickly learned how confused, intimidated, and frightened people can become when they have a case in Family Court. She is the past president of the Boyd School of Law Alumni Association and works closely with the law school and fellow alumni. Judge Marquis is the first District Court Judge to graduate from Boyd and was recognized as Alumni of the Year in 2016. For many years, Judge Marquis worked with highly respected attorney William Terry, and their practice focused on criminal law, attorney discipline defense, and judicial defense. Her dedication to the law led to being recognized by her peers. In 2006, the State Bar of Nevada awarded her the Access to Justice Award for her outstanding pro bono service. Judge Marquis also served as a Justice of the Peace Pro-Tem in Las Vegas Justice Court and North Las Vegas Justice Court. She was also an Alternate Judge for the Las Vegas Municipal Court. The Clark County Commission also appointed her as a Presiding Officer for the Police Fatality Fact Finding Review Board. Judge Marquis is raising her family in Las Vegas and is committed to giving back to the community that has been so good to her.
