Speaker Biography- The Honorable Daniel J. Crothers
Justice Daniel Crothers was appointed in 2005 to the North Dakota Supreme Court and elected to an unexpired four-year term November 2008, and a 10-year term in 2012. Prior to coming to the bench, he was a partner with the Nilles Law Firm, Fargo, ND. He served as Assistant State’s Attorney, Walsh County, ND, 1983 to 1984. In 1982-83 he clerked at the New Mexico Court of Appeals, Santa Fe, New Mexico, having earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of North Dakota School of Law, 1982. In 1979, he graduated from University of North Dakota in Political Science, Journalism and Early American History. In addition to his duties on the North Dakota Supreme Court, he serves as faculty for National Judicial College, in Reno, NV, where he annually presents for judges and lawyers worldwide on ethics, technology, and evidence. Justice Crothers is the current Chair of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and serves as Chair of North Dakota’s Committee on Judiciary Standards. He is a past member of ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility; past Chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Client Protection, and past Chair of the ABA Center for Professional Responsibility Policy Implementation Committee. He was president of the State Bar Association of North Dakota from 2001 to 2002
