Speaker Biography The Honorable Natalie L. Tyrrell

PresenterJudge Natalie L. Tyrrell has served as Justice of the Peace in North Las Vegas since January 2001.  She was re-elected to serve a fourth term until January 2025, and has also served four terms as Chief Judge. She is the first woman judge in North Las Vegas.  Judge Tyrrell received her J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. She received her B.A. from Mankato State University, where she served as student body president. Prior to her election she served almost 9 years as an elder law attorney with the City of Las Vegas Senior Citizens Law Project.  She also served as an attorney arbitrator for the State of Nevada. She is licensed to practice law in both Nevada and Minnesota and before the United States Supreme Court.

Judge Tyrrell created an outreach program in 2002, Kids in the Court, partnering with C.P. Squires Elementary School, an at-risk school in North Las Vegas. This program educates fifth graders about the court system with emphasis on careers and the importance of staying in school.  In 2018 Judge Tyrrell was honored by the American Judges Association.  She received the Judge Elliott Zide Education Award for her Kids In the Court program.

Judge Tyrrell is currently the President Elect of the Nevada Judges of Limited Jurisdiction.  She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the American Judges Association. Judge Tyrrell served three terms on the State of Nevada Judicial Council. She also served on the Nevada Supreme Court Commission to Study Evidence-Based Pretrial Release and the Nevada Supreme Court Commission to Study Best Practices for Virtual Advocacy in Nevada’s Courts.

Judge Tyrrell is licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission as a professional boxing judge.
