Speaker Biography The Honorable Bita Yeager
Eighth Judicial District Court
Judge Bita Yeager serves as a district court judge in Department I and currently handles a civil docket, the Mental Health Court, and oversees the Civil Commitment Court and Assisted Outpatient Treatment Court. Originally from New York, she pursued her education at Brigham Young University, she continued at BYU for law school, graduating in 1994, during which time she immersed herself in various legal endeavors, including serving as the legal director of the Ombudsman’s Office and volunteering on the rape crisis team at the Center for Women and Children in Crisis. After clerking for three judges in the Eighth Judicial District Court, Judge Yeager dedicated almost two decades to indigent criminal defense at the Clark County Public Defender’s office.
Her commitment to public service led to numerous accolades, including the "Award of Excellence" by Legal Aid of Southern Nevada. Appointed to the Las Vegas Justice Court bench in 2015, she has since spearheaded initiatives such as the Las Vegas Community Court and the Co-Occurring Disorders Treatment Court, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to improving access to justice and addressing complex societal issues.
