  • Eighth Judicial District Court Investitures

    Congratulations to Judge Tara Clark Newberry, department 21; Judge Christy Craig, department 32; Judge Margaret Pickard, department V; and Judge Bita Yeager, department 1, who marked their investitures on September 30. In the recent election, 22 new judges were voted in to serve on the bench of the Nevada Eighth Judicial District Court; all were women, including these four. Investitures are formal ceremonies with significant symbolism, as new judges publicly swear an oath to uphold justice prior to being ceremonially robed in front of family, friends and colleagues.

  • Bar Admission Ceremony for Successful July 2021 Exam Applicants

    In October, the Nevada Supreme Court will host in-person swearing-in ceremonies in Reno and Las Vegas to administer the Oath of Attorney to new Nevada attorneys.  The Court will also conduct a new admittees pinning ceremony at each swearing-in event.  The Reno swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Washoe County Administrative Complex, Commission Chambers, 1001 E. Ninth Street, on Friday, October 15, 2021, at 3:30 p.m., followed by a reception sponsored by the Washoe County Bar Association.  The Las Vegas swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, 3555 Las Vegas Boulevard, on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 3:30 p.m., followed by a reception sponsored by the State Bar of Nevada.View the list of individuals who have passed the July 2021 Nevada bar exam.

  • Blueprint for Racial Justice Initiative

    The Conference of Chief Justices (CCJ) and Conference of State Court Administrators (COSCA), with support of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC), have appointed two Nevada judges to join their newest national initiative, the Blueprint for Racial Justice, which will work to take immediate and recognizable steps toward improving racial justice, equity and inclusion in the justice system.  

  • Nevada Judiciary Awarded a State Justice Institute Grant

    The Nevada Judiciary has been awarded a State Justice Institute (SJI) $50,000 technical assistance grant to engage the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) in assisting the state's leadership judges and administrators in a collaborative planning process to develop a strategic campaign agenda. The Nevada Judiciary will provide a cash match of $5,000 and an in-kind services match of $20,000. This effort will include participation from jurists, trial and appellate court staff, justice system partners, court users, practicing lawyers and other stakeholders.  The project is expected to last nine months.

    Investiture for Justice Douglas W. Herndon

    Newly elected Nevada Supreme Court Justice Douglas W. Herndon repeated the official oath of office during his investiture at 3 p.m. on June 29 at the Historic Fifth Street School in Las Vegas. Chief Justice James W. Hardesty provided opening and closing remarks and Associate Chief Justice Ron D. Parraguirre administered the oath of office to the Court's new colleague.
