CLE at the Law Library

The Law Library will offer an Ethics CLE on Tuesday, October 25th and Wednesday, October 26th, 2016. Both classes will provide the same information, but the class on Wednesday, October 26th from 10-11 am will be open for court personnel only, while the training on Tuesday will be open to the public; please feel free to attend either class.

Phil Underwood, our Thomson Reuters representative, will teach the classes and the programs will also be available via webinar. Call the Law Library (775-684-1640) to reserve your seat.


Tuesday, October 25th – Open to the public

Westlaw for the Non-Attorney – 2016

2:30 – 3:30 pm

The Nevada Supreme Court provides free Westlaw Patron Access at the law library. You will learn how to state your question clearly that you need answered, determine the jurisdiction, understand citations and abbreviations and learn how to find Nevada statutes and cases as well as secondary sources. You will be reviewing legal encyclopedias, texts and treatises, articles, codes, court rules, reports and reporters, opinions, digests, American Law Reports and how to KeyCite.

Ethics – 2016 – Open to the public

3:45-4:45 pm

You will learn various research strategies for searching primary and secondary legal materials, such as case law, court rules, statutes, law review articles, and treatises pertaining to legal ethics, and professional responsibility. We will also discuss basic computer-assisted legal research tasks, such as retrieving documents by citation, issue searching, digest searching, and verifying primary law using the KeyCite® citation research service, in the context of legal ethics and professional responsibility research issues. Qualifies for 1 Ethics CLE.


Wednesday, October 26th - Open to court personnel only
