The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) has accepted Nevada as a recipient of technical assistance for the Committee to Study Evidence-Based Pretrial Release. The NIC will assist the state in establishing a pilot site program.
The NIC Technical Assistance Program reviews the needs, problems, and individual requirements of state and local agencies. The NIC, at its own expense, will assess the current pretrial release programs operating in Clark and Washoe counties in order to provide ways to improve management and operations.
The NIC technical team will participate in Committee meeting discussions on January 8, 2016 in Carson City and Las Vegas.
The Supreme Court has established the Committee to examine alternatives and improvements to the bail system through evidence-based practices and current risk assessment tools.
