March CLE Classes

The law library will be offering two CLEs in March. One class will be Statutes and Legislative History Research on Tuesday, March 28th from 3:45pm – 4:45pm in room 107.  The second class will be Researching Criminal Law on Wednesday, March 29th from 9:00am – 10:00am, also in room 107. Both classes will also be available by webinar.  Call or email the law library (775-684-1640 or reference@nvcourts.nv.gov) to reserve your seat.  

If you would like to participate by webinar, please provide your bar number with your request so we can get you credit from the CLE board.

Statutes and Legislative History Research

 

3:45pm – 4:45 pm

 

Learn how to conduct legislative history research on Westlaw. In the first part of this class you will learn how to research the legislative history for a specific act. We will discuss where the act is codified, and how to find legislative history for the act. In the second part of this class we will find the legislative history for a specific statute. Plus we will see how to find links to other documents on Westlaw that cite to your statute including cases, secondary sources, regulations, and administrative decisions. Part three will focus on researching statutes. See how we have made statutory research easier with links to relevant cases and relevant legislative history we will also learn how Westlaw has made it easier to search the statutes including by the popular name of the act. Part four will focus on researching state legislative history materials on Westlaw.

Researching Criminal Law

Learn how to research Criminal Law using Westlaw. Westlaw makes it easy to find applicable cases and statutes for all your needs.  Westlaw has many secondary sources and briefs to keep you up to date on new developments and help you understand Criminal Law. 

 

Qualifies for 1 CLE credit for Nevada
